[with emendations]
Yesterday in Great Britain there was a three hour production that had elements of an open-mic comedy club and a celebrity roast, but by all accounts, was riveting theatre. The production was not performed at the Royal National Theatre or Covent Garden, but rather “off Broadway”
in a lesser stage down the lobby from the main hall at the House of Commons, Westminster Abbey, London, aka: the British Parliament, starring the Petition Committee. It was on par with any of the British import shows on the tele here in the colonies, made more remarkable due to the over-extended device of sustained tragi-comic soliloquarian*™ monologues of Hamletonian*™ depth and consequence. The subject: Should Donald Trump be allowed to be, or not to be, banned from Britain. That was the question.
It was scripted and performed by a large ensemble cast who seemed well-pleased with their performance. I wanted to comment immediately but decided to wait for the overnights. I went to my slumber like a child on Christmas Eve, perchance to dream, hoping I wouldn’t pee the bed in anticipation of the response from legions of American critics which I was sure to find upon the new morn’ as they, in turn, debated whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous attempts of the British to interfere in the American political process—as alluded to by early editorial commentary.
Since there was essentially no defense of Trump, I didn’t see this as a “debate,” but merely publicly choreographed distancing from Trump’s comments and the American political process so as not to seem sympathetic to either. It was theatre meant to assuage the passions of those they have allowed to become firmly imbedded amongst them. Given that the committee had no authority to promulgate such a ban, the outcome was non-binding. But my money is on the Home Secretary who does have the authority, to do so—not on any genuine principles, but merely to placate. It’s already too late for Britain and probably also for us.
Emendation 7/25/18
It should be noted that Her Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for the Home Department (the Home Secretary) at the time of this debate was Theresa May. I fall upon my sword and admit I was wrong in my assessment that she would ban Trump. She did not, perhaps because he never tried to visit although he did mention he might because of business interests in Scotland. She became Prime Minister on July 13, 2016. On January 27, 2017 May announced an invitation for Trump to visit Britain. Trump had a “working” visit (without full state honors) with May and the Queen on July 13, 2018.
Emendation 7/31/18
The Russians interfered! The Russians interfered! Do something!!!
Really? What about all the alleged comics (including all those snarky foreign-born-and-bred late-night show hosts or governments of other countries who have interjected their opinions, false virtue-signaling, and agendas into our political dog-and-pony show?) For an excellent analysis of this idiocy see this essay written at the end of July 2018. Remember, I said it first and much more succinctly and elegantly here in January 2017.
And let’s not forget all this fake hysteria was used to justify the creation of the unfettered Mueller “investigation” into all things even slightly in the sphere of anything Trump, well beyond its stated mandate, which continues deep into its second year with an unlimited budget of your tax dollars in order to attempt to find something just in time for the mid-terms. The Deep State had H. Clinton’s back so she could get away with very real crimes.
*Apparently I have coined a new word as I find no such entry in ye olde Oxford English dictionary, therefore, I claim them a personal usage mark.
