If I am in the mood, I listen to The Michael Savage Show on ABC radio out of New York City on my way to work. If you are not familiar, it is the radio talk show of San Francisco-based Michael Savage syndicated on over 300 stations nationwide. He has a web site and also puts out a newsletter each day that usually summarizes the show’s topic that day, and, of course, offers up product endorsements and other revenue-producing click-bait.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act—aka “Obamacare”—often in the news these days, was among the topics two days ago as it has become a millstone around the necks of the feckless Republicans in Washington as they continue to embarrass themselves in their pathetic attempts to repeal and replace it. The bill is odious as to how it was produced and passed, its content, intent, and implementation. There is plenty of fodder to be found within its 900-plus pages for talk show hosts to discuss without resorting to riling up the gullible masses with topics and talking points that aren’t real.
Such was the case when Savage asked, “Are you aware that there are death panels in the Obamacare law? Do you know they actually exist?” ∗

While there is nothing explicitly stated in the bill about so-called “death panels,” there is language which suggests physicians have “the talk” with their patients. That is just as scary as if there was actual mention of “death panels.” I wasn’t aware that these lawmakers and their bureaucratic “deep state” are licensed physicians in a position to promote such ideas. The real issue here is not “death panels,” but the power allocated to the federal bureaucracy—the “deep state.” The more government gets into every detail of our lives, the more freedoms we lose. Once something has become law-of-the-land it is nearly impossible to get rid of. The inability to repeal, cripple, or replace Obamacare is a perfect example. Why? Because the bill was a huge porkfest and a massive giveaway and wasting of public funds. Once a constituency is created or enlarged by giving them money or something for nothing, nobody wants to give up their little piece of the pie. Once bought in this fashion, politicians are loath to rile said constituency. That’s how American two-party politics works in a nutshell.
